Secret Beaches Near Dubrovnik — 8 Hidden Coves Only Accessible by Boat (2026)

The most beautiful beaches near Dubrovnik are the ones most people never see. Hidden beneath cliffs, tucked into uninhabited coves, accessible only by water — these secret beaches reward those willing to rent a boat and explore. No sunbed rentals, no beach bars, no crowds. Just pristine Adriatic water and the sound of waves.

At Rent Boat Dubrovnik, discovering secret beaches is our passion. Our co-founders Gari and Mislav have explored every cove within two hours of Marina Frapa. These 8 hidden gems are their personal favorites — places they take their own families when they want to escape.

What Makes a Beach “Secret”?

Our criteria:

  • No road access or very difficult land access
  • Not mentioned in most guidebooks
  • Rarely crowded even in August
  • Exceptional natural beauty
  • Worth the boat trip to reach

The 8 Secret Beaches

1. Betina Cave Beach, Koločep Island

Location: Western shore of Koločep
Distance: 25 minutes from Marina Frapa

This tiny beach exists inside a sea cave. You anchor outside and swim into a hidden world — a small pebble beach with natural shade, turquoise water, and complete privacy. The cave opening faces west, so afternoon light creates a magical glow.

What to know: Space for only 2-3 groups. Arrive before 11 AM for the best spot.

2. Pasjača Cove

Location: Near Popovići village
Distance: 35 minutes

While Pasjača Beach is now famous (voted Croatia’s most beautiful), the coves on either side remain unknown. These rocky swimming spots sit beneath the same dramatic 200-meter cliffs without any visitors.

What to know: Deep water — good for jumping, not for children.

3. Mrkan Island North Cove

Location: Uninhabited island south of Cavtat
Distance: 50 minutes

Mrkan is completely uninhabited — no buildings, no facilities, no people. The northern cove has a small pebble beach and exceptional snorkeling. Feel like a castaway for a few hours.

What to know: Bring everything you need. There is nothing on the island.

4. Lokrum Hidden Bay

Location: Southeast Lokrum Island
Distance: 15 minutes

While thousands visit Lokrum daily by ferry, the island’s southeastern shore is almost deserted. Anchor in a small bay only accessible by boat and enjoy rocky swimming platforms with views of the open Adriatic.

What to know: The official FKK (naturist) area is nearby — stay south to avoid it if preferred.

5. Zaton Secret Cove

Location: West side of Zaton Bay
Distance: 30 minutes

Zaton Bay is known to locals, but the small coves at its western entrance are not. These peaceful spots have calm, shallow water perfect for families — without the facilities (or crowds) of the main beach.

What to know: Protected from waves. Ideal for beginners and children.

6. Šipan North Shore

Location: Uninhabited northern coast of Šipan
Distance: 55 minutes

Most Šipan visitors stay in the two villages on the southern shore. The northern coast has multiple untouched coves with no human presence. Anchor, swim, and imagine you’ve discovered your own private island.

What to know: Some coves have difficult anchoring. Our skippers know the best spots.

7. Koločep Forgotten Coves

Location: Between villages on Koločep
Distance: 25-30 minutes

The coast between Koločep’s two villages hides several tiny beaches. Too small for ferry visitors to bother with, these coves are perfect for boat guests who want to anchor and swim in solitude.

What to know: Rocky entries require water shoes.

8. Cavtat Cape Secret

Location: Western tip of Cavtat peninsula
Distance: 25 minutes

While tourists crowd Cavtat’s harbor beaches, the western cape has rocky swimming spots known only to locals. Anchor here in the morning for peaceful swimming before heading into town for lunch.

What to know: Walk into Cavtat (10 minutes) for restaurants.

Tips for Finding Secret Beaches

  • Arrive early: Even secret beaches get visitors by afternoon in peak season
  • Look for anchor symbols on charts: Indicates good holding ground
  • Ask our team: We know spots not on any map
  • Explore beyond the obvious: The next cove over is often emptier
  • Weekdays beat weekends: Locals go exploring on Saturdays and Sundays

What to Bring

Secret beaches have no facilities:

  • Food and water (essential)
  • Cooler with ice
  • Sun protection (no shade at some spots)
  • Water shoes (rocky entries)
  • Snorkeling gear (included with rental)
  • Trash bag (leave no trace)
